Poems of the Century

.

-Ratna Thapa
(1939)

O' don't ask 'how'? or 'why'?
over and over again,
Do not look for my voice
Lost in this forgotten void.

Everyone is voiceless here,
Look! they have no throats at all;
Even the winter that gives sun-burns
And strong gales are all windless.

O' it is better to tear apart
The leech curled around one's heart,
When freedom is spaced out all twisted
Between the ribs of a barren breasts.
Look! the accused primal serpent raising its hoods
Every moment must be cautious here
The footprints being wiped out in every step.

Invisible hands clutch my throat
To strangle the words within me;
I get the meaning end somehow gasp
'Run, man! Run'
