Poems of the Century

.

-Dwarika Shrestha
(1940)

You advanced
Ripples over ripples
A calm lake
Where I dived and swam
Within myself
Ripping clothes and drying sweat,
You entered
Deeper and deeper
A firm root of peepal tree
I roamed deep inside myself
Burning lamps on all my five fingers.

I'm making a river flow all over me
You're melting like this,
Now I'm making a tree grow
All over me
You're germinating like this.

This battle
Between growing and germinating
I'm tearing down the trails and borders
On the map,
I'm vacating the room
Inside me
To hear your study of
Neither victory nor defeat.
